Nas Said "Hip Hop is Dead"

Is Real Hip Hop Really Dead?

A search for real hip hop these days usually leads one to the realm of underground hip hop. What is underground hip hop, exactly? Some might say that is hip hop made by artists who are not relevant, or hip hop which itself is irrelevant, because of who made it, produced it, and released it, or because it doesn't get airplay on any of the major mainstream hip hop radio stations. You might be wondering if underground hip hop is something new. In response, we'd point out that hip hop really only started gaining mainstream and commercial acceptance in the early to mid 90s. Some of you reading this may recall how heavy metal music was demonized by certain segments of American society in the early to mid 1980s. Many people may tell you that hip hop is dead. But is real hip hop really dead? From city to city across the United States, and quite possibly also around the world, there is a plethora of radio stations, terrestrial and satellite, that claim to represent "hip hop". Many people who have listened to these stations might argue that the music sounds more like R&B and pop.

There are many hip hop artists who have achieved mainstream success but still stay true to real hip hop. These days, it seems as though real hip hop has been driven underground, mostly by the likes of greedy corporate executives and other pirates out to plunder and pillage the hip hop culture for all that it is worth.

If a random stranger were to approach you and ask you what is your idea of real hip hop, how would you respond?

Bringing You Some of the Dopest Hip Hop
You Will Ever Hear in Your Life

Whether it's the music of The Sunset Kid presented here on this site, or the music of other artists featured on the blog. That is the Stomp and Crush commitment to all fans of real hip hop. Street music. No love songs or rap ballads or hip hop/r&b hybrids. No offense to fans of that music or the artists who make such music. We just feel that there are already more than enough hip hop artists and radio stations promoting that sort of sound. We chill hard, rock harder, and spread love "the Brooklyn way". Doing our part to keep that true NYC/east coast hip hop sound alive and bumping.
